Sandusky - Lake Erie Port of Call

Sandusky is one of the earliest ports on Lake Erie. Boats and ferries still call here, mostly the cargo is people headed for the islands or a leisurely get-away on the water. Below is a view of Lake Erie from the bottom of Columbus Avenue in downtown Sandusky, and the Goodtime at dock just about a block or so west.

Boy With the Boot, Symbol of Sandusky, Ohio

The Boy With The Boot is a Sandusky symbol and icon. This replica statue stands on the fountain in the town square park in downtown Sandusky. The original statue is protected inside after surviving a bout with vandals a few years ago.

Sandusky’s Merry-Go-Round Museum

The Merry-Go-Round Museum is one of Sandusky’s jewels, a favorite of residents and visitors alike. It is located in downtown Sandusky just west of the town square.

Look for my new travel book, Sandusky, A Guide to Ohio’s North Coast Playground, just out this spring about the Sandusky area, a Tourist Town Guides® book published by Channel Lake.

There is much to see and do here on Ohio’s north coast playground. from Vermilion to Lakeside, Sandusky to Milan, Fremont to Port Clinton, the Bass Islands and Kelleys Island — birding, fishing, swimming, boating; sightseeing, county fairs, parades and festivals; historical investigations; diving Lake Erie wrecks; and of course the excitement of the Cedar Point Amusement Parks. Don’t forget the great restaurants and wineries too!
